In the 1980s U.S. Steel planned and constructed the existing community and 18-hole championship golf course at Swan Point. Then, in 1986, the Charles County Commissioners approved the Swan Point community master plan to expand the community with a traditional suburban design.
In 2005, Brookfield Homes (now known as Brookfield Residential) partnered with U.S. Steel to develop and execute the Swan Point vision. In 2006, this vision was approved by the Charles County Commissioners as the General Development Plan. See the General Development Plan.
Today, Swan Point Development Company is proposing a refined environmentally friendly plan that adheres to the approved 2006 General Development Plan. The plan strategically positions five distinct villages around significant open space that will respect the environmental resources of the Swan Point peninsula. See the Swan Point Plan.
The Villages at Swan Point will create a resort waterfront community with a proposed hotel and conference center attracting visitors, residents and business retreats from the Washington, D.C. metro area and beyond to Maryland’s gem on the Potomac.
